R. Murphy Knives in Ayer has been producing top-quality cutlery since 1860. Mark Furman and Mimi Younkins bought the company seven years ago and have gradually expanded its line of kitchen tools. They are now crafting grilling essentials using the same high-grade stainless steel as they do for knives — perfect when cooking for a crowd on July Fourth. One new selection is the heavy-duty Grill Scraper ($54). Although you’re supposed to clean a grill rack every time you use it, many of us don’t and are then faced with the dreaded task of scraping gunk and grime off the grates. This scraper makes the job easier: It has a beveled edge that digs into the greasy buildup and notched ends to get in between the grates. The stainless steel and hickory wood handle is long enough to keep you away from the flames as you clean. Another offering is an outsize Grill Spatula with the same lengthy handle ($68). The blade with a beveled edge, 5 inches wide and 8 inches long, is big enough to flip two burgers at a time. The spatula is useful for handling a whole fish or large fillets. The items may be pricey, but they are top-notch, sold separately or as a set ($112).
