Ball
Candlepin: 4½ inches in diameter, no finger holes, about 2½ pounds.
Ten-pin: 8½ inches in diameter, three holes, maximum weight 16 pounds.
Frame
Candlepin: three balls per frame.
Ten-pin: two balls per frame.
Pins
Candlepin: Straight, like a candle. Felled pins are not removed between balls. The “wood’’ can then be hit to knock down other pins. The pins are 15¾ inches tall.
Ten-pin: Curved. Felled pins are swept away between the first and second ball. They are 15 inches tall.
High score
Candlepin: Highest sanctioned score ever recorded is 245 out of 300.
Ten-pin: Tens of thousands of “perfect’’ 300 games bowled each year.
