Visit the Kirkland Tap & Trotter in Somerville (425 Washington St.) on Jan. 31, for an epic french fry battle — all for a good cause, if not good cholesterol. The fry-off benefits Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign, dedicated to eradicating childhood hunger in America. Kirkland chef Tony Maws, Sarma chef Cassie Piuma, Tremont 647 chef Andy Husbands, and Scampo chef Lydia Shire will create fries with dipping sauces. Whose is the best? Sample all of them, vote for your favorite, and then stick around for a panel of french fry experts to award an official winner. The competition is for snackers 21-plus, and it starts at 2 p.m. Get tickets ($30, with two drinks included) at www.ce.strength.org/events/boston-food-fights.
