ATTENDANCE, PLEASE:

■ WR Kenny Britt, who is on the PUP list, was the only Patriot not spotted on the field. According to a league source, Britt was at the facility getting treatment on his hamstring, which was the plan all along. He did not suffer a setback.

■ WR Matthew Slater; CBs Jonathan Jones and Cyrus Jones; and safety Nate Ebner, all of whom are on the PUP list, were present but not in uniform. WR Malcolm Mitchell, who is not on the PUP, was wearing sweats, a T-shirt, and gloves. All did conditioning work on the lower field after team stretches and light running.

■ Right tackle Marcus Cannon, who left Friday’s practice early, was back. He split time with LaAdrian Waddle.

NEW INJURIES: Defensive end Trey Flowers left late in the practice after a collision during a goal-line drill. He walked off with some trainers holding a towel to his head. Rookie cornerback Keion Crossen departed early with an undisclosed ailment.

DRESS CODE: Full pads.

THREE UP

Deatrich Wise Jr.: The second-year defensive end blasted running back Jeremy Hill with a hit that drew gasps from the crowd. He also beat offensive lineman Trent Brown a couple times during one on ones and had a deflected pass.

Duron Harmon: The veteran safety had a pair of end zone interceptions, one each against Brian Hoyer and Tom Brady.

Ryan Lewis: The young cornerback continued to show good technique and broke up a pair of passes.

THREE DOWN

Sony Michel: The rookie fumbled early on when bumped by safety Damarius Travis and was sent on a penalty lap. Ball security was an issue for him at Georgia.

Trent Brown: The left tackle candidate was dominated a couple of times by Deatrich Wise Jr.

Marcus Cannon: The right tackle was given a penalty lap for an error (perhaps a false start) during one-on-one drills.

TOP PLAYS

■ Safety Patrick Chung had nice timing on a breakup of a Tom Brady pass to Rob Gronkowski. Chung and Gronkowski are longtime practice nemeses and their camp battles are always entertaining.

■ Vincent Valentine shot through the A gap and would have sent Brian Hoyer to Palookaville had he been allowed to touch the quarterback.

■ Kyle Van Noy provided some up-the-gut pressure on Brady that led to his poor throw on the Duron Harmon interception.

■ Devin Lucien had a pretty corner end zone catch of a Brian Hoyer toss over Jason McCourty.

UNOFFICIALLY SPEAKING

As expected, the first day in full pads featured a lot of work on the running game, so the quarterback numbers aren’t gaudy. Tom Brady went 6 of 11, Brian Hoyer 9 of 12, and Danny Etling 2 of 5 in 11-on-11 work.

RECEIVER’S RACE

Jordan Matthews had a pair of nifty grabs from Tom Brady, including a sliding catch along the sideline and another that changed directions late after a Stephon Gilmore deflection. Matthews spent extra time after practice working with Brady.

ODDS AND ENDS

■ There was lots of snap, crackle, and pop as the pads were on for the first time. The one-on-one trench drills are among the most entertaining of camp and the first session was held under the watchful eyes of Bill Belichick and Ernie Adams. Among the standout battles: Deatrich Wise Jr. dominating Trent Brown; Brown and Adrian Clayborn in a fierce battle (we’ll call it even); Lawrence Guy taking down David Andrews; Vince Valentine beating Ted Karras; Dont’a Hightower and Matt Tobin (draw); Harvey Langi thwarting Tobin; and Marcus Cannon and Trey Flowers drawing even.

■ My new favorite drill is watching receivers coach Chad O’Shea fire a blocking pad at his receivers just as the ball arrives during individual drills. O’Shea occasionally turned it up a notch by throwing the pad and a towel in the players’ face simultaneously to distract his students.

■ During one individual session that resembled a three-ring circus with balls flying everywhere, Tom Brady fired passes to the tight ends, Brian Hoyer zipped them to the running backs, and Danny Etling chucked them to the receivers.

■ Tom Brady launched a deep pass to a staffer in the end zone and was greeted by a fan saying, “You still got it bro. You still got it!’’

■ Team president Jonathan Kraft arrived midway through practice.

■ Etling was the first player to arrive at practice.
