Autopsy shows Halladay had amphetamine, morphine in system at crash

An autopsy report says two-time Cy Young Award winner Roy Halladay had evidence of amphetamine, morphine, and an insomnia drug in his system when he died in a small plane crash in Florida on Nov. 7. The Tampa Bay Times reports an autopsy released Friday shows the former Blue Jays and Phillies All-Star died from blunt force trauma with drowning as a contributing factor when he crashed into the Gulf of Mexico near New Port Richey. The National Transportation Safety Board hasn’t identified a crash cause.

Shattenkirk to have knee surgery

New York Rangers defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk will be out indefinitely with a meniscus tear in his left knee and is scheduled to have surgery Monday. Shattenkirk, who signed a four-year, $26.6 million deal in the offseason, said he has been playing with knee pain since training camp but plans to return before the end of the regular season . . . Oilers center Ryan Nugent-Hopkins will miss 5-6 weeks with cracked ribs, according to reports. He leads the Oilers with 16 goals and has 15 assists.

UMass men blank Northeastern

Mitchell Chaffee scored twice and Matt Murray made 29 saves as host UMass (11-10-1, 5-6-1 Hockey East) earned a 3-0 shutout of No. 8 Northeastern (14-6-3, 10-4-1) in men’s hockey, ending the Huskies’ nine-game unbeaten streak . . . Lewis Zerter-Gossage scored his second goal of the game at 19:01 of the third period as Harvard (8-6-4, 7-3-3 ECAC) salvaged a 6-6 at No. 2 Clarkson (18-3-2, 10-0-1) . . . Serena Sommerfield struck at 1:42 of overtime to lift No. 2 BC (21-2-3, 14-1-3 Hockey East) to a 3-2 women’s hockey win over Vermont (6-15-4, 3-10-3) at Conte Forum . . . Matti Hartman scored twice as Northeastern (13-10-3, 9-7-2 Hockey East) took a 5-3 win over UConn (7-11-7, 1-10-4) at Matthews Arena . . . Koepka out with injured wrist

US Open champion Brooks Koepka has a partial tear of his left wrist tendon that will keep him out until the Masters. Koepka said he noticed discomfort at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas the first week of December . . . Thomas Pieters shot a second-round 65 for a one-stroke lead at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship in the United Arab Emirates. Rory McIlroy shot 66 and was three shots back, while top-ranked Dustin Johnson had a bogey-free 8-under 64 and was four behind . . . Andrew Landry leads the PGA CareerBuilder Challenge in La Quinta, Calif., by a stroke over Jon Rahm after a 7-under 65 to reach 16-under 128 . . . Chapchai Nirat shot a 7-under 64 for the clubhouse lead at 7-under 135 in the suspended second round of the Singapore Open.

Revolution pick pair in first round

The New England Revolution had two picks in the first round of the MLS SuperDraft, selecting collegiate midfielder/defenders Brandon Bye (Western Michigan) and Mark Segbers (Wisconsin) with the eighth and ninth overall picks . . . Italian skier Sofia Goggia won a World Cup downhill race on home snow at Cortina d'Ampezzo, after a major mistake cost American Lindsey Vonn. Vonn led Goggia midway down the course but had trouble landing a jump and slammed on the brakes to clear the next gate. Goggia finished 0.47 seconds ahead of Vonn. Mikaela Shiffrin was third, 0.84 behind. Another American, four-time Olympic medalist Julia Mancuso, retired and bid the circuit goodbye by wearing a Wonder Woman suit during a casual run.
