To the Editor:
Since 2011, the state has made deep cuts to the Local Government Fund (LGF), slashing it in half from 3.68 percent to 1.66 percent. As a result, North Royalton has experienced approximately $7 million in funding cuts.

On behalf of our residents and community, we traveled to the statehouse to testify before the House and Senate Finance Committees and met with state lawmakers, to advocate for an increase in the LGF.

As a result, we are happy to report that the state operating budget for FY 2020 and FY 2021 – recently signed into law by Gov. Mike DeWine – does contain a slight increase for the Local Government Fund.

Is this perfect? No, but is a small step in the right direction. The more funding restored, the more we can address urgent issues like aging infrastructure and storm water without needing to ask residents for more money.

We would like to especially thank State Sen. Matt Dolan and Rep. Tom Patton for their efforts. We hope this is just the first step in restoring Ohio’s investment in local communities.

Sincerely,

Dan Langshaw and
