‘A cut above the rest’
OUT of all the tourism destinations Jeff Wagoner has visited, he says the Fijian people have made their country a cut above the rest.
The president and CEO of Outrigger Enterprises Group, Mr Wagoner was recently in Fiji to farewell outgoing Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort general manager Peter Hopgood.
Mr Wagoner said the brand of Outrigger Fiji was elevated even higher considering all the community engagement programs carried out by the resort.
“It’s wonderful, you think about the company in general has been around for 70 years, it’s a very iconic company and to have resorts like these, it’s very special,” he said.
The group presently owns two properties in Fiji — Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort and Castaway Island Resort.
“At Castaway, it’s all about being barefoot and being on the beach and it’s such a special place.
“Then you come here (Outrigger Fiji) and everything they’ve done in the community, it’s fantastic.
“You know we’re so humbled to be a part of Fiji, I’ve been here for two days and I’ve grown so fond of the people, the staff here as well as the guests.
“When I was at Castaway, there were a couple of guests I met who had been there 40 times and they just loved it.
“They said they came back because of the people and the special feeling they had about those resorts.”
Mr Wagoner said they would also keep an eye out for more potential investments in Fiji.
“I think we’ll take a look at what the opportunities here are for investment in the hotels and how to continue to improve them, to be world class.”
Under the stewardship of Mr Hopgood, Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort’s community projects have included the construction of a kindergarten, two classrooms, a library, a computer lab and meeting bure at Conuia District School.
