The rainy spring and beginning of summer have delayed some projects and made others more challenging. Construction continues with installation of the sidewalks and driveway aprons along the new southern portion of the Route. 82 widening between Spruce Run Drive to just east of Abbey Road. Traffic should have shifted to the new pavement this past week to allow for the removal of the old roadway and construction of the new roadway along the same section. Beginning around July 1 the intersection at Abbey Road will be closed for 30-40 days to allow for the reconstruction of this intersection. Thank you for your continued patience during this major project.

The Route. 82 resurfacing from York Road to the Broadview Hts. line has started and will be done in two phases. Phase 1 is from York Road to just east of Ridge Road and Phase 2 is from the end of Phase 1 to the Broadview Hts. line. The project is a mill and fill pavement replacement with catch basin repairs and curb replacements along the project. This project is scheduled for completion by the end of October 2019.

Our road maintenance program will continue with Crossroads Asphalt beginning pavement planning and asphalt paving on Akins Road (between Ridge and State roads) on Wednesday, June 19 and completion by Friday June 21.

During these projects I would encourage you to slow down, pay special attention and use extreme caution and patience when traveling in these work zones.

Our Building Department will continue its annual property maintenance inspections throughout the city. Maintaining your property is not only important for you, but for the entire community at large. Our goal is to maintain a strong housing stock throughout our community in an effort to increase property values for you and your neighbors.

The annual Pet Carnival will be on Sunday, July 28. The Chamber of Commerce and the City of North Royalton will also be sponsoring a Business Appreciation Day and Sidewalk Sale on that same weekend of July 27-28. Take advantage of a chance to shop our local businesses and to also enjoy the afternoon with your pet.

I hope everyone will have a fun and safe Fourth of July weekend.
