I hope everyone had a great start to the New Year. Before I start on a busy 2019, I would like to highlight a few positive numbers from 2018. The city finished the year with a total cash balance of $18.03 million for all of our funds. The general fund balance was a positive carry over of approximately $2 million. The street construction maintenance and repair fund saw a year-end savings of close to $200,000 due to projected road projects being lower than estimated. This will allow us to start the year with a larger balance for this fund.

As we continue to monitor our recycling program, we saved approximately $118,000 and recycled more than 2,600 tons of material. This is an increase of an additional $11,000 and around 230 tons from the previous year. I hope we can continue this positive trend.

This will be a very busy year with the continued widening of state Route 82 from West 130th Street to York Road, the repaving of state Route 82 from York Road to the Broadview Heights line, and other street repairs and storm water improvements. Please be patient and courteous as we do these necessary projects to improve our streets and infrastructure.

I would like to acknowledge our residents who have accepted appointments on our planning commission, board of zoning appeals, recreation board, fair housing board and civil service commission. They bring their knowledge, expertise and resident perspective to those boards. Thank you for your service and great job.
