DOOR

To create immediate impact, Amanda Reid of Boston-based Mandarina Interior Design Studio chose Serape by Sherwin-Williams for this Chestnut Hill entry door. The bold color adds curb appeal to the exterior and an infusion of color to the interior.

ART WALL

Reid dressed up the otherwise lackluster stairway with a salon-style gallery wall, mixing original artwork and prints of figures, still lifes, and landscapes, all in saturated hues. Reid sketches a layout and uses painter’s tape to hang printouts of each piece on the wall before banging in the nails.

LARGE ARTWORK OF FLOWERS IN STRIPED VASE

A vibrant giclée print on unframed canvas by artist Erin Gregory serves as the anchor around which Reid positioned the other pieces.

DOOR KNOCKER

The simple black matte ring door knocker is an easy, modern update that still works with the home’s classic Colonial Revival architecture.

LIGHT FIXTURE

The small entry could not accommodate much furniture, so Reid relied on an elegant and sparkling light fixture, a cost- effective find on Overstock.com, to add drama and shine.

STAIRWAY HANDRAIL

A few coats of glossy black paint transformed the handrail’s tired and bland oak finish into a strong graphic element that echoes that of the door knocker.
